Emerging from a master plan to utilise vacant space, Chow:Hill’s design of a medium density, multi-unit residential development in Cambridge will maximise an asset and create a community.

An iconic destination in the Home of Champions, Cambridge Raceway is loved by locals and visitors alike for its racing nights, derby weekends, and celebratory events. But underutilised land on the site had potential and Chow:Hill was tasked with exploring opportunities for it.

A master plan for the 16,000sqm precinct measured activities, provided recommendations on the upgrade of facilities, and reviewed effective use of the site. This included the design of a medium density, multi-use residential development, which placed community at its heart.

Low fences, visible front yards, and street planting, are some of the key features of the development to successfully blend public and private spaces, while a connection to the local green belt has been retained around the site.

Natural materials have been selected to provide a softening of the aesthetic and encourage pride of place among residents.

The development has secured resource consent and is part of Waipa Council’s Long Term Plan for residential expansion in the area.
