Four awards, three categories, (more than) two years in the making, and one night – Chow:Hill’s success at the 2024 Property Council New Zealand Property Industry Awards was the culmination of much collaborative work and copious amounts of coffee.
The annual Property Council New Zealand Property Industry Awards is an evening dedicated to the people behind the projects and celebrates excellence in design and innovation.
In 2024, Chow:Hill had four award-winning projects across three categories:
Te Kete Aronui Rototuna Library, Hamilton | Civic, Health and Arts Property Award, Merit
Chow:Hill’s design of Te Kete Aronui Rototuna Library, Hamilton’s newest library development, speaks to the local community and provides a cultural heart for this growing northern suburb. Designed in partnership with Designwell and AECOM in collaboration with Ngaati Wairere and Te Haa o te Whenua o Kirikiriroa for client, Hamilton City Council, Chow:Hill’s design of the library and surrounding landscape, reflects the community’s desire to have a distinctive and vibrant village feel.
Award category sponsored by Warren and Mahoney.

Kmart Distribution Centre, Ruakura, Hamilton | Industrial Property Award, Merit
Chow:Hill’s design of Kmart’s New Zealand Distribution Centre was on a grand scale. At 40,000sqm in size, on an almost 9ha lot, this commercial development on Tainui Group Holding’s site, has a commanding presence on the landscape of New Zealand’s largest inland port, the Ruakura Superhub. With enough space for four rugby fields inside, the Chow:Hill’s design incorporated key sustainable elements, including solar panels, rainwater harvesting, EV charging stations, and low-emission refrigerants.

Laidlaw College Campus, Auckland | Education Property Award, Merit
An inspiring adaptive re-use project gave Chow:Hill the opportunity to design a new vertical tertiary campus for Laidlaw College in Henderson’s town centre. The new campus has transformed three floors of the existing building with new commercial base build tenancy spaces, which reflect the first stage of a long-term vision for site development and carefully balances the provision of welcome hospitality, learning, teaching and research.

Recognised for its calming ambience and modern environment, Chow:Hill’s interior design of Starship Children’s Hospital has created a welcoming environment for patients, whānau, and staff at New Zealand’s leading children’s hospital. The design of the major expansion to this vital healthcare provider has included creative use of space to ensure a world class facility, which incorporates 10 High Dependency Unit (HDU) beds, a clinical support area, handover room, and storeroom. Integral to the project was the inclusion of a whanau area kai room for visiting parents and whanau members.
